Pink Mum
"Bloom where you
are planted"

~ Mary Engelbreit
Pink Tulips

April 2008
Spring is Here!!

While it may technically be spring, it doesn't quite feel like it just yet outside. Seeing people raking their lawns, however, is far more promising than the four feet of snow that just melted from view. The greenhouse is abuzz with planting, transplanting, pinching, watering and all of our favorite spring activities. People are starting to come in more and more and we can feel the desperation for nice weather after this harshest of winters. We are looking forward to the gardening season, especially with the explosion of interest in organic and natural living. We hope this nationwide phenomenon applies to this area as well because we, ourselves, are huge fans of organic and have a great supply of products for organic gardening.
All of this talk of recession and downturn in economy also has us at the edge of our seats. Will people be cutting back this year or not? While this could have an ill effect on many other businesses, we are confident that gardening will only become more popular as people spend more time at home, cutting out expensive extra-curricular activities and vacations. If you're not going to be seeing Bermuda beaches, Hawaiian rainforests or national park vistas, afterall, why not create your own spectacular view. Just a small investment could offer a lifetime of beauty.
Also, with the rising price of food and gasoline, what better way to save money than by growing your own vegetables?!? One of our favorite seed suppliers has already reported a banner year despite the poor economy. For just the price of a packet or two of seeds (about $1 to $2.50), you too could have an entire year's worth of squash or tomatoes. Think of the savings after just a small input of time, water and fertilizer!
We're keeping our fingers crossed for some beautiful, warm, sunny weather....we've all earned it! And we're looking forward to seeing you in the shop! This is certain to be a great season!

Spring Bulbs in Snow

Early Spring 2008
Thanks For a Great First Year!!

We are so pleased to be commencing our second year in business! 2007 was a great year and we are so grateful to have worked with such a fun group of people. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported us over the course of our first year...we look forward to serving you again!

As the snow finally seems to be slowing down and the days keep getting longer, we are anxiously awaiting "springier" times....and finally it seems like there may be some! Planting season is upon us as our first seeds of the year are quickly maturing into healthy little plants. These sprouts and plantlings (and even first flowers!) throughout the greenhouse keep us feeling hopeful that we will be in the garden again soon. What a joy to be planting in the greenhouse when the ground is still so frozen... feel free to stop in for a rejuvenating jolt of energy!

Perhaps it is not possible to fully enjoy life if we are always hoping for the future to come as fast as it can, so I suppose we should take pleasure in this brief respite from the toils of summer's outdoor labor. After all, there is nothing cozier than a hot cup of soup and an engrossing novel by the fire on a cold day. And no time in the summer is staying in bed just a little longer than usual more satisfying than sleeping in on a cold winter's day. Just the brewing anticipation of spring followed by the most energetic explosion of life as our yards, gardens and forests are renewed with the warmer weather is simply not worth missing, even if we could wish winter away for good.

For those that are still feeling desperate to get away from winter, we're still offering a lovely variety of green and blooming houseplants, as well as supplies for keeping up those that you already have. Brighten your day, or the day of someone you care about, with a springy bouquet from the florist shop. Stop in or call anytime to see what we have in the cooler... you won't be disappointed! As always, we would love to hear your feedback about this site or our shop here.
